Alternatively, you may choose to create multiple image copies of your database so that you still have a backup after executing the SWITCH D T B S command. A A AE

Backups can be full or incremental If the backup destination is a backupset, then R A writes all iniMN tialized blocks in each datafile; if the backup destination is an image copy, then R A writes all MN blocks in each datafile, including uninitialized blocks On the other hand, an incremental backup only writes those blocks, which have changed since the last backup was taken This reduces the amount of time required to perform the backup It also reduces the amount of storage required to store the backup The downside to incremental backups is that more physical media (tapes or files) may be required to restore a consistent image of the file(s) you are recovering Recovery is more efficient using incremental backups than using archived redo logs, because physical blocks in an incremental backup can be written back to the database directly.
